Ok guys and gals. Today I am going to give you my two cents worth of something that is really important to get. Actually, it’s worth a lot more than two cents. What I am going to share with you can potentially make all the difference in your success or failure in the game of social media marketing.
The first point I want to share is this is NOT called “sales media marketing”
You know what I am talking about. I see it every day on Face Book; people pitching their products or services. There is not a quicker way that I know to get someone to un-friend you if you are doing this behavior. Somehow, people forget the word “Social” in that three word phrase and jump write into trying to “Market” to people.
The dictionary defines “Social” as seeking or enjoying the companionship of others; friendly, sociable. Now I don’t know about you, but those aren’t the words I am thinking when I see someone pitching their business opportunity, products or services.
And if those folks would be really honest with themselves, they need to ask this simple question. How’s that working? I think the answer would be pretty close to this.
“IT’S NOT WORKING” ….
If you are like me, this approach feels like you were invited to a friend’s house for a social party and when you get there, you find out it’s not a social party at all…. It’s a kichen ware party.
I’m sure you probably have a great opportunity, product or service that we all can use. It’s just that people don’t like to be sold to or pitched to. You need to create a dialog where they get to know you first. People buy from people they know and trust. That’s worth repeating…
People buy from people they know and trust.
So instead of broadcasting your opportunity, business, products, services, etc. on the Facebook feed. Let me give you an approach that takes time but will produce amazing results.
- First, begin joining groups in facebook that seems interesting and have the type of people that you would like to connect with.
- Check out some profiles of people that are in these groups until you find someone that you think could make a good friend. Things to look at are in their “Info” section. What books do they read, what hobbies do they like to do etc.
- Send them a friend request, but make it personal. You will get much better results of people accepting your friend request. Say something like…
“Hey (Name) I was checking out your profile and noticed we like some of the same books. I am always looking to connect with like minded people. Would love to connect with you and see what you are into.”
With this more personal approach you should get a positive response. You won’t get everyone accepting your friend request but you will get a lot better results. As you know, you will get a notification that they accepted your friend request. It amazes me that most people don’t’ take the time to write back and say “thank you for accepting my friend request” Well now I am going to show you something really powerful.
- You respond with a message like this. “(NAME) thank you for accepting my friend request. I would really like to get to know you better and what you’re up to. I’m more about the quality of my friendships then the numbers.
Try doing this in a video message
It is a great way to introduce yourself and set you apart. It’s personal, it’s powerful. Keep in mind that your goal is to set the stage for them to want to connect with you over the phone. I will put in another post what the proper approach should be on the phone with your new friend.

You ought to really think about expanding this site into a serious authority in this market. You clearly have a fundamental understanding of the topics everyone is browsing for on this website anyways and you could possibly even make a dollar or three off of some offers. I would look into following recent topics and raising the number of articles you put up and I bet you’d start getting some great traffic in the near future. Just a thought, good luck regardless!
